Yoga has changed my life! I started my yoga practice about five months ago. I really needed to find some inner peace, and I also wanted to get started on my weight loss journey to finally lose the baby weight. I didn’t even have a yoga mat, but I cued up some videos to get me started. I got on YouTube and looked up “Yoga for Beginners” and stumbled on this video:
This is a great first video if you are a beginner. I liked that it was a first step, but eventually I was ready for more. I knew that I was a beginner, but my mind was open to new things, so I was craving something a bit more intense. I wanted a challenge!
Mandy Ingber gives a great 30 minute yoga workout. It is fast-paced, so I would only recommend this one if you’re up for a workout. Since then, I have gone back to Yoga with Adriene and fallen in love with SO many of her videos. I just finished participating in Adriene’s 30-day Yoga Camp, and I could literally write an entire post about how much I enjoyed this adventure. Who knows?! Maybe I will!
My home yoga practice has become such an important part of my life. If you read my goals for the year, you know that I want to have 250 yoga sessions this year. I’m already at 40, and it’s only February! We don’t currently have the family budget for me to practice outside my home, but I look forward to that in the future. Here are my must-haves for starting your own home yoga practice.
#1 – A Yoga Mat – I finally got one for Christmas, and I’m obsessed with it. I can’t actually believe I did yoga without it.
#2 – The Perfect Outfit! – Getting into the perfect pair of yoga pants just motivates me to get on my mat! I’m loving these outfits from Fabletics!
#3 – Yoga Blocks – I’m really loving these for an inexpensive option. I just ordered the charcoal gray one, and it should be here any day!
#4 – At Least 10 Minutes of Time! I know that when you’re first starting out with something new, it can be hard and sometimes frustrating to find 30-60 minutes in your busy day. My suggestion to you is to start with some short sessions. Now that I’ve fallen in love with yoga, I love to devote as much time as possible and enjoy longer times on the mat. But, there are still days where all I can fit in my day is a short sesh! Here are a few of my favorite short yoga workouts:
# 5 – An Open Mind – Although last on my list, it’s certainly not least! I challenge you, especially if you’re a beginner, to go to the mat with an open mind. Yoga has changed me so much on the inside. I feel more peaceful, more positive, and more connected to myself.
So, I’d love to hear what your yoga must-haves are, or if you’ve tried any of the workouts I’m loving. Comment below! Namaste!
